Poetics of empiricism, time and seasons, water, ice -- Each of these components expand and contract as points of contact with “Spring.” Far from encompassing a mere fractal of Thoreau’s ruminations and reimaginings in Walden, this textual map emphasizes moments of intersection and divergence from each element. In this sense, the close readings of “Spring” present the possibility of bleeding into Thoreau’s conception of Spring in other chapters. When combined with visual media, this textual map proliferates beyond two dimensions, and thus embodies itself in digital space. It is our hope that our individual readings convey an ecosystem of thought-- our interpretations-- as points of convergence and departure from our selected aspects, and through the notion of Spring in Walden itself.
